Philip Mannheim Physics Dept., U. of Connecticut, Storrs CT, USA Does the cosmological constant problem presage a paradigm shift in gravitational theory? We review the challenges presented by the cosmological constant and quantum gravity problems, and discuss whether they might presage a paradigm shift in gravitational theory. We discuss what form such a paradigm shift might take, with particular consideration being given to conformal gravity.
Chuck Gallo & James Feng Superconix, Lake Elmo MN, USA Ordinary Dark Matter versus Mysterious Dark Matter in Galactic Rotation To theoretically describe the measured rotational velocities of spiral galaxies, we assume Newtonian gravity/dynamics and successfully find (via computer) mass distributions in bulge/disk configurations that duplicate the measured rotational velocities. NO speculations re Gravity Deviations NOR “Massive Peripheral Spherical Halos of Mysterious Dark Matter” are necessary. However, there exists ordinary Dark   Matter within galactic disk distributed towards the cooler periphery.
Ram Gopal Vishwakarma Zacatecas Univ., MEXICO Does Dark Energy Signal a Wrong Physics? The mysterious `dark energy' needed to explain the recent observations, poses a serious confrontation between fundamental physics and cosmology. Recently it has been discovered (by the author) that the present crisis appears due to an error in the formulations of the perfect fluid which is used to model the matter contents (including dark energy) in the Universe. It should be noted that this aspect of the theories of gravitation has remained untested. An experiment, to test this feature, has also been proposed.
Robin Booth Insular Inst., Brentford, Middlesex, U.K. Machian General Relativity – a possible solution to the Dark Energy problem? A cosmological model based on Machian General Relativity is described. This is shown to give rise to a universe in which the cosmic scale factor increases linearly over time. The resultant dynamics are able to account for the apparent acceleration in the rate of expansion of the universe, without the need for a cosmological constant.
